Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
